I've just come across this site, and may be purchasing a Thud set in the near future, having greatly enjoyed Thud! the novel. In browsing the site, a few questions came to mind (and most were forgotten again), but the thing that struck me most was that the rules given at http://www.thudgame.com/rules ought to include a sketch of the board, indicating the starting positions of the pieces. Is someone able to rectify this? I think there were other aspects of the rules page that lacked completeness, but the starting positions is the most important thing.

Re: A suggestion
Sorry,I can't give you a "picture" of the thudboard
but I can say you where to bye...But only when you are german.
Sorry, but if that so look at http://www.spiele-offensive.de/?seite=2000&aid=1002174
Maybe you can find a "picture" there?

Good point! For the moment there is a graphic on this page near the top which shows the starting positions (albeit badly). Basically, as Grag Bashfullson says in the book, the trolls surround the center rock whereas the dwarfs line up around the outside of the board. As you can see from some angles, the middle square on the shorter sides of the outside circumference are left empty but all the others are occupied by a dwarf.
I'll see if I can't get a better picture up on the rules page soon. Many thanks for the suggestion!

Re: A suggestion
Thankyou for the astonishingly swift replies. If someone has the time to edit the rules page, it would also be helpful to add illustrations of the various possible moves and captures (although the meaning is clear enough without them) as well as the aforementioned diagram of the starting positions.

We aims to please!
But to be fair it's prime work time so I happened to be here anyway. Please don't be disappointed if someone posts from XXXX or LA or Tokyo then thinks we don't like them coz we took several hours to get back to ya - it's just we're probably asleep

A bit of quick graphics editing (not up to our usual standards but quick
) and some CSS work and now there's a rules page graphic with a pic of the starting positions. all dwarf lines work the same as the ones that are obvious. Every short line has an empty square in the middle as per the picture.
Good point about moves, etc. too. Anyone fancy having a go at uploading some graphics? E-mail them to me* and I can do it for you
Arnold, keep the suggestions coming - they're good ones!

;-)
As it happens I'm posting at 3am from XXXX, and just happened to get lucky with the time difference (I knew it was 10 or 11 hours but wasn't sure in which direction, so I had no idea whether to expect replies).
As for further suggestions, you could do with an apostrophe after "pieces" in the caption to the image you just added
.
