I have but two requests: 1st, that in the active forum topics u put back the number of comments, second, in the points listings, bring the name and the points closer to each other or something to make it legible again

that and that the name of the person u are quaton appears inside the quoteation box...i forsee problems with that

Re: New site theme (July 07) - feedback

there'a a few other areas that i think need attention but the list is exhaustive so i won't waste the thread space [nodds at MS and OB] with it.

Thanks for trying to stay On Topic, Sgt. What I've done, tho, because there were lots of comments there about the new theme, and because it deserves to get a thread of it's own, is converted it into a new thread. So please, lets hear everyone's thoughts Very Happy

Yes, many thanx for that! Events have proceeded quickly so only now getting to comment on things.

Just an update: The quoting thing is "fixed" - a bit different; found some obscure CSS2 code to make the quote boxes a bit more elegant... at least in proper browsers. Also the names of the person quoting are inside the box (sort of) and the boxes nest inside properly now.

The titles on the sidebars are fixed now. The comment numbers will be fixed soon (and not sure why that flew away but we'll suss it soon).

The userpoints table can be far apart if you have a kilometre-wide screen like Dewi Wink but it's nothing that can't be usable by shrinking the browser size a bit as a workaround. If we get time we might be able to put a max-width statement in although IE will almost certainly ignore it...

There's a nice icon pack we're using and we're happy to load up any other that people contribute (no nicked commercial stuff - must be GPL/LGPL minimum and preferably BSD, PD if it's from someone else, or your own license if it's your work).

We welcome any suggestions but do hurry as we will be in code freeze regarding site interface until sometime next year after this set of website upgrades. Worry not, work will continue on the online Thud client, getgame and other things on the list in the background.

I like it, its most cool but two things which is kinda annoying, is its hard to tell who wrote the post, i know it says but i think its easier to see when its above the picture, also, i think that there should be a line or maybe two lines between the date of the post and the comment e.g

- The "Not Spam" link under each post is still broken.
- The other thing, which has a long and chequered history with me, is the "X new" link in the forum view.
Looks something like this: (the link that I've put in to show you which bit I'm talking about doesn't go anywhere)

SaneAlex vs FlorisXIV 33 9 weeks 5 days ago 3 days 22 hours ago
(KLASH,Doubles) 10 new by FlorisXIV by SANEAlex

This link should take you to the first new post when you click on it. And it does, as long as the post in question is on the first page of the thread - otherwise it doesn't work.

- Just discovered: the "code" blocks come up as a white-ish block with white-ish text in it...

Hmmm, so it breaks in IE6, eh? Typical. Has Microsoft ever done anything well? Oh yeah, there was Excel 4... although that wasn't as good as Lotus 1-2-3 but looked nicer and was easier to use...

I wonder about IE5.x? Checking........... Hmmm, works fine (mostly!). A bit of z-index luvvin' should put it to bed, so to speak....

So. Internet Explorer 6. Right. Gonna have to add some hacks to the conditional state CSS but not tonite. Maybe tomorrow Neutral

MS
The right hand menu disappears whenever anyone is in a user area (such as your profile page) or in an admin area (such as Druids might be from time to time). This is a feature, particularly for those with smaller monitors.

The right hand menu disappeared on this thread because the Code bit Scrubby did above borked the style setup. It's been fixed (kind of) but I'm experimenting with a few things for a permanent fix.

Oh, also, the librarians.png graphic has been replaced with a librarians.gif file because IE6 is too thick to understand png alpha transparency that every other browser in the known universe can handle with ease Exclamation We've put n some clever stuff to take care of the background thud graphics which basically means you poor muppets who can't live without IE don't get the full graphical effect. Sorry. I blame Billy G and his microserfs Sad

i also switched from ie to firefox a couple of weeks ago, at least when on thud, and am now giving opera a go as a total alternative. and i can't see the background, either. the quotes problem was with firefox, but it didn't really bother me. right now i can't find any quotes³, but as soon as i do i'll tell you what they look like with opera...

Re: New site theme (July 07) - feedback

i think i have figured out what angua's problem is. reading through a whole lot of 2 years old posts does help Wink.
anyway, what i noticed is that when you quote a person
like this
everything works just fine, but without the person
like this
the little box around "quote" is missing.

*sigh* i know that. that's how i've been doing it all along. i'm not that dumb, you know. but there are some quotes around that don't have the name. plus, i merely tried to visualize what i think angua was trying to tell us.

oh, and the background does show on IE with me, but not on opera and not on firefox.

Re: New site theme fixes

OK, the background pic is back. Hold down the Ctrl button (bottom left/right of PC keyboards; could be anywhere on a laptop...) whilst re-loading the page and it should appear in it's newer brighter glory.

I was trying to get it to display with CSS compression but without result. The CSS was valid (AFAIK) but there's a bug in the compression method thus it's back to plan B (which will get done after the Jamboree).

The background always worked in IE because IE users (IE6 and below) get served up the old background that was always there due to transparency deficiencies in IE. Sorry.

The script tags shouldn't be showing now (crosses fingers...)

(Edit: apparently not. Damn!)

No we thought it might be getting a bit crowded in the forums but if you all want to leave them then cool! It's really not important; I think Ponder suggested it a while ago and we argued they should stay... (volunteering to do work?? Not me guv'nor! Very Happy)

Let's know if anyone feels strongly about it.

By the way, the "Gotta reload the page twice before successfully posting" bug seems fixed. For me at least. Let's know if it's still happening to anyone else.
